Yvonne Blomer has served as Victoria, B.C.’s poet laureate for three years. During that time she has been an advocate for all things poetry, including editing the anthology Refugium—Poems for the Pacific (Caitlin Press, 2017). As her term drew to a close she spent time with Robert Bateman paintings at the Bateman Centre in Victoria, online, and through reading his memoir. She wrote fifteen ekphrastic poems as a response to some of his paintings and Ravine, Mouse, a Bird’s Beak presents them alongside the images that inspired them.
